The Subaru Impreza is an all-wheel-drive compact that comes in a four-door sedan or five-door
version. For 2008 the Impreza is totally redesigned with a longer wheelbase that improves ride,
interior space and utility. The new 4-door is 4.5 inches longer than the previous sedan and 6.5 inches
longer than the 5-door models. The 4-door sedan shares the same design in the front with the 5-door
but is differentiated by red light lenses and a chrome strip below the trunk at the rear. The 2002 model
took the next step with the introduction of the WRX. Also in 2002, the Impreza 2-door was discontinued
and Impreza was only offered as a 4-door sedan or wagon. The powerful WRX STi was added for
2004.
New for 2008

5-door. Equipped with an all-new double wishbone rear suspension and chassis the Impreza also
has a lower overall weight and a longer wheelbase. Interior room has been increased for more rear-
seat legroom and front shoulder room. The framed windows allow for better body rigidity and a
quieter interior. Powering the Impreza is a 2.5-liter 170-horsepower engine and a 2.5-liter 224-
horsepower turbocharged engine for the WRX. Both engines have been modified for improved
emissions and are tuned for improved low-rpm acceleration. Standard safety equipment includes
side-curtain airbags, Subaru Advanced Frontal Airbag System (SRS) with front seat head / chest side
impact airbags (SRS) and a driver’s side front airbag.

The Outback models are now Subaru’s all-wheel-drive wagons based on the Legacy and Impreza.
Prior to the 2008 model year, the Outback consisted of sedans and wagons. The Outback was
originally introduced as a 1994 Legacy trim and was set apart from other Legacy trims for 1996. The
Outback Sport Wagon based on the Impreza Wagon was introduced for 1995. For 2007 the Impreza
2.5i Sport Wagon returns, a value-equipped model called the 2.5 i Basic joins the lineup along with
two new L.L. Bean Editions: the Outback 2.5 i L.L. Bean Edition and 2.5 i Limited L.L. Bean Edition.
The 3.0 R joins the lineup for 2008.
New for 2008
The 3.0 R Limited is added to the 2008 Subaru Outback lineup featuring a 245-hp 6-cylinder engine
with SI-Drive, a 5-speed automatic transmission with SPORTSHIFT, steering-wheel paddle shifters
and Bilstein Sport Suspension. Exterior updates include revised front and rear styling, a larger grille
opening, new front and rear bumper fascias and new headlights and taillights on all Outback models.
More standard equipment is added including a remote keyless entry with integration ignition key, a
tilt/telescopic steering column and a tire-pressure-monitoring system. Other updates include a
revised rear suspension for more ride comfort, a redesigned instrument panel and revised interior
fabrics and the 5-speed automatic transmission is revised for more performance and better shifting
response.

The Legacy is Subaru’s midsize sedan and like all Subaru models since 1998, the Legacy is only
available with all-wheel drive. Debuting for the 2000 model year, the third-generation Legacy was
more mainstream than its predecessors and added to the model's popularity. For 2005 Subaru
introduced the fourth-generation Legacy, with fresh styling, better handling and more power. An all-
sedan lineup is set for 2008 with all wagons are now in the Outback line. The 3.0 R Limited is added
as the new flagship of the Legacy model replacing the 2.5 GT spec.B. The 3.0 R Limited is tuned to
provide a performance expected from premium European all-wheel-drive sedans.

The Forester is the first small crossover SUV from Subaru. Subaru is the first company to offer all-
wheel drive across its entire model line. The Forester was introduced for the 1998 model year and
redesigned for 2003. Built on the Impreza platform, the Forester feature's Subaru's Symmetrical All-
Wheel Drive. For 2007 two new Forester versions are added called the Sports 2.5 X and Sports 2.5 XT.
New for 2008
After receiving a number of updates for 2007, the 2008 Subaru Forester gets revised exterior and
interior trims on Sports models including STI-style front bumper, black painted surrounds for
headlights and taillights, new 6-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels, silver-painted roof rails, and leather-
wrapped shifter and parking brake handle. The Forester Sports 2.5XT also receives body-color roof
spoiler with LED high-mounted stop light and 17-inch 10-spoke STI-style alloy wheels. Turbo models
equipped with optional automatic transmission now feature the Variable Torque Distribution (VTD)
version of Symmetrical AWD, along with Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability system and traction
control. Added to the L.L. Bean edition are a standard auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink
feature, rear cargo area carpeting and standard cargo accessory tray. An audio system with upgraded
speakers is standard in the Sports models and L.L. Bean.

The Tribeca is Subaru’s midsize SUV that’s built on the same platform as the Outback. Initially named
as the B9 Tribeca in 2007, it loses the B9 designation for 2008. At 3 inches longer, 4 inches wider
and nearly 5 inches taller than the Outback, the Tribeca offers available 7-passenger seating. The
exterior styling introduces a new styling direction for Subaru with the front design intended to reflect
Subaru’s heritage as an aircraft maker and a very sleek side profile. The Tribeca interior is very
modern, yet very functional with upscale materials and excellent ergonomics.
New for 2008
The 2008 Subaru Tribeca is redesigned with more dynamic styling featuring new exterior panels, new
18-inch wheels, larger side mirrors and a new 256-horsepower 3.6-liter 6-cylinder Boxer engine.
Mated to a revised 5-speed automatic transmission, the new engine provides more torque and now
only needs regular-grade fuel. Seven-passenger models receive 2nd-rowtip-slide feature on the left
side for access to third row, a new helper spring for one-hand operation of the tip-slide feature and
new grab handles are molded into the rear side panel trim. The 2008 Tribeca is pre-wired for SIRIUS
and XM satellite radio and the navigation software has been upgraded.
